How to Export Your ChatGPT Data
Exporting your ChatGPT data is a simple process that should take only a few minutes.
- Go to chat.openai.com and log in to your account.
- Click on the ellipsis in line with your account name on the right tab.
- Select Settings from the menu.
- Click Show in line with Data Controls.
- Click on Export data.
- Confirm the export by clicking the Confirm export button.
Processing the data export can take some time, depending on how much data you have. Once your data is ready, a download link will be sent to your email address. The link to the data export download expires 24 hours after you receive it, so be sure to download it within that time frame.
What’s In Your ChatGPT Data?
Your ChatGPT data will be exported as a ZIP file. You can extract the ZIP files with a free unzip tool online or any ZIP management app if your computer does not have one.
Upon extraction, you will find an HTML file with your conversation logs. You will also get a JSON version of your conversation logs and account information. The HTML file can be viewed in a browser, while the JSON files can be accessed and read using any text editor. The information included in your export includes:
- Your account information (e.g., username and email address)
- Prompts you’ve sent ChatGPT.
- Responses to your prompt.
Keeping Track of Your ChatGPT Activity
ChatGPT is a powerful tool that can be used for various tasks, from composing emails to having conversations with the chatbot. You can easily export your ChatGPT data by following the simple steps outlined in this article.
